Deepwater Horizon, the real story behind the 2010 BP oil disaster comes to the big screen starring Mark Wahlberg, Gina Rodriguez and Kurt Russel. Deepwater Horizon is not the story of the environmental disaster but the real story based on true events, of the employees of the rig that was exploring for oil on behalf of BP. The Producer Peter Berg known for Battle Ship and the Lone Survivor, brings the story of the workers on the DeepWater Horizon to life and lets you feel the emotions of the story as one crew leaves and the next crew arrives on board the Deepwater Horizon a floating exploration rig, and the story of the events that lead to the biggest environmental disaster in US history.
Deepwater Horizon leads you on a journey into the events leading up to April 20th, 2010 and what actually happened when the Gulf coast of the United States had 210 million US ga of crude oil enter the Gulf of Mexico with much of the oil washing ashore from Texas to Florida, decimating the habitats of various birds, fish and mammals.
This is not a movie for the faint of heart, the CGI is part of the truly amazing portrayal of what happened on board the rig, and how it affected the people and their families. The movie also pays tribute to those perished in the explosions and what they did, risking their lives for that of others. everybody knows the environmental but the survivors story is one that has not been told until now.
Deepwater Horizon will fill you with a variety of emotions from happiness to sadness, from questioning to anger. There is nothing more compelling than a story that draws you in, allows you to understand what the crew went through and also gives insight on what happened that day.
Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell (Jimmy) work well together and you can see that they really want the story to be told correctly. Gina Rodriguez shows what she has when it comes to being cool and a take charge girl.
In the end, this story leaves you wondering but also shows you the real story and not the hollywood version of the story. Peter Berg takes the CGI from Battleship and increases the depth of the movie through properly placed elements and amazing effects.
We won't give you the story line but if you are expecting an environmental movie you have come to the wrong place, this is about the heroes and the story that lead up to the disaster.
The movie was premiered in Toronto and from the crowd who got to preview the movie prior to release in Pittsburgh, PA, this movie will not disappoint.
In today's days of reality TV, it was great to see a movie on the big screen that told the story entertained and stayed out of Hollywood all the time maintaining a great story line. Catch it in theaters September 30, 2016
This definitely is worth 4 out of 5 popcorn
Until next time............. Ron Palmer Out
